Les Spice Girls est certainement le groupe féminin le plus prolifique de ces trente dernières années. En seulement trois albums (et un récent Greatest Hits), les membres du groupe ont réussi le pari insensé d'établir une image commerciale, de populariser des chansons plaisants à différentes catégories d'amateurs de musique et le tout à l'échelle mondiale ! Tout commence en mars 1994 quand un producteur britannique alors indépendant décide de créer un groupe féminin avec pour objectif avoué de former un équivalent féminin de Take That, véritable phénomène de société au Royaume-Uni. Ce dont il ne se doute pas à l'époque, c'est que cet objectif sera beaucoup plus qu'atteint. Pour cela, cinq filles d’une vingtaine d’années sont recrutées : Melanie Chisholm (dit Melanie C), Victoria Adams (aujourd'hui Victoria Beckham), Michelle Stephenson, Melanie Brown (dit Melanie B) et à la dernière minute, Geri Halliwell. Les filles doivent apprendre à se connaître rapidement, former une équipe soudée (du moins à l'image) et trouver leurs styles. Des premières démo sont enregistrées mais très vite, Michelle ne se sent pas à sa place. Pour des raisons qu'elle estime personnelles, elle décide de quitter la formation au bout de quelques semaines. La toute jeune Emma Bunton la remplace presque au pied levé et intègre donc le groupe récemment nommé Spice Girls. Pendant que Simon Fuller, manager du groupe, commence à faire la présentation de ses protégées aux médias, les filles enregistrent déjà leur premier album. Très vite, un morceau se démarque des autres, Wannabe, qui est aussitôt désigné comme premier single. La promotion arrive très vite et il est alors demandé aux filles de s'approprier un style particulier afin de former...
