Previously it meant having to put a long cage derailleur on a bike, you'd need to put a longer chain on too. Meaning that everyone can take advantage of advances in technology. Tony Martin is a classic example of a rider who wants to stay in the big chainring for as long as possible and with a 58t chainring paired up with a 32t sprocket on the cassette means that he can do so by using the WiFLi medium cage rear derailleur.
