Katherine Elizabeth Hudson, connue sous le nom de scène Katy Perry, née le 25 octobre 1984 à Santa Barbara, en Californie, États-Unis, est une auteur-compositeur chanteuse américaine. Katy Perry est née en Californie. Elle est la fille de deux pasteurs, elle a une sœur aînée Angela et un frère plus jeune David. Elle a grandi en écoutant du gospel et en chantant à l'église. Étant à l'école à Dos Pueblos High School à Goleta en Californie, elle ne finit pas son Secondaire et s'installe à Los Angeles à 17 ans. Après avoir signé avec Red Hill Records, le label de Steve Thomas et Jennifer Knapp, Katy Perry sort un album de musique chrétienne sous le nom de Katy Hudson en 2001. Pourtant, pendant son adolescence, elle découvre un album de Queen qu'elle considère comme « sa plus grosse influence » depuis lors ; influence à laquelle on peut ajouter des artistes comme Alanis Morissette, Heart et Joni Mitchell, ainsi que l'album Morning View du groupe Incubus, ou de manière plus générale le pop rock des années 1980. Elle change son nom, qui devient Perry, ce qu'elle explique par le fait que le nom Katy Hudson était trop proche de celui de l'actrice Kate Hudson. Perry est le nom de jeune fille de sa mère.
