Kansas est un groupe de musique rock des États-Unis né dans les années 1970. Il est devenu célèbre avec le morceau Dust in the wind. Membres du groupe, dans l'ordre où ils l'intégrèrent: * Kerry Livgren - guitare/clavier * Dave Hope - basse * Steve Walsh - clavier/chant * Richard Williams - Guitare * Phil Ehart - batterie * Robby Steinhardt - violon/chant * John Elefante - clavier/chant * Billy Greer - basse * Steve Morse - guitare * David Ragsdale - violon Origines Dave Hope (basse), Phil Ehart (batterie) et Kerry Livgren (guitare et clavier) formèrent le groupe Kansas en 1970 dans leur ville Topeka au Kansas avec le chanteur Lynn Meredith, le clavier Dan Wright et le saxophoniste Larry Baker. C'est la première formation de Kansas jusqu'à ce que Phil Ehart parte pour l'Angleterre. Les fans appellent cette formation Kansas I. Ehart est remplacé par Zeke Lowe et plus tard par Brad Schulz. Hope quand à lui est remplacé par Rod Mikinski à la basse et Baker par John Bolton au saxophone et à la flûte. Les fans appellent cette formation Kansas II. En même temps, Ehart et Hope forment le groupe White Clover avec Robbie Steinhardt au chant et au violon, Steve Walsh au clavier et au chant et Rich Williams à la guitare. Il changent leur nom en Kansas lorsqu'ils recrutent Kerry Livgren du second groupe Kansas. En 1974 ils rencontrent Don Kirshner lors d'un concert gratuit et obtiennent un contrat dans sa maison de disque qui leur permet d'enregistrer leur premier album. Les années 70 La particularité du groupe réside dans le contraste entre les riffs de guitare électrique, tendance hard rock et les passages très doux au violon et à la guitare sèche.
