In this humorous, self deprecating Talk, The Gay Beards, teach us how to "love the hate." On July 21, 2014 Brian & Johnathan shared their first Instagram post and stars were born. But more importantly, they became a beacon for laughter, hope and positivity. They explain that hate is taught and it only exists as much as we let it. Their idea? Don't let negativity hinder your life. With special thanks to core the TEDxPortland organizing team, 70+ volunteers and cherished partners - without you this experience would not be possible. Our event history can be found TEDxPortland.com In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. Individually, their names are Brian Delaurenti and Johnathan Dahl. Together they’re known as The Gay Beards. Since age 8, humor has defined their relationship. Having experienced many of life’s triumphs and tragedies together, the duo creates lighthearted content utilizing one of Portland’s most notable styles: beards. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
