Description de l'artiste Gotye

Gotye (prononcé « Gautier »), de son nom de naissance Wouter De Backer, né le 21 mai 1980 à Bruges, est un auteur-compositeur-interprète et musicien belgo-australien. Wouter naît en Belgique en 1980, mais déménage avec sa famille vers l'Australie à l'âge de deux ans. Lors de son inscription à l'école, ses parents choisissent d'utiliser la variation anglaise de son nom, Walter. Très tôt, il affiche une passion pour la musique, et apprend divers instruments, notamment le piano et la batterie. À l'adolescence, il forme le groupe Downstares avec ses amis de lycée, dont Tarente Lucas qui accompagne encore Gotye sur scène actuellement. Wouter est diplômé du Parade College en 1998 et est admis à des études d'Arts et de Droit à l'université de Melbourne, ainsi qu'à une formation en langues modernes (japonais). Il abandonne ses études de droit et de japonais, et fait un baccalauréat des Arts, principalement orienté vers les études culturelles. Les membres de Downstares se séparent et Wouter se retrouve sans vrai projet musical, ne voyant pas comment faire une carrière solo en tant que batteur. Un ami lui suggère alors de sampler des disques parmi la collection héritée d'un voisin, ce qui lui ouvre une porte pour lancer un projet sous le nom de « Gotye » (phonétiquement « Gautier », la traduction française de « Wouter » qu'utilisait affectueusement sa mère). De ces samples sortira en 2001 un CD 4 pistes, Boardface. Il fait également partie du duo indie pop The Basics avec Kris Schroeder, groupe qui enregistrera quatre albums et se produira en parallèle avec Gotye entre 2004 et 2010. Le premier single tiré de l'album Like Drawing Blood, certifié disque d'or, sort en août 2006 et devient également un succès aux Pays-Bas. Le 5...
