Footage of tests in the Nevada desert. Scientists do research on the effects of atomic bombs. Therefor they set up different scenarios and blow them up. Nevada, United States of America (USA). Several shots of Nevada desert - Greyhound busses arrive to atomic testing base. People get out of busses and cars getting ready to study survival chances in an atomic explosion. A special live-size town with different types of buildings has been erected for this purpose. Several shots of people inspecting the site and site itself. There are dummies (women, children, babies) inside the furnished houses. A man is seen pulling bed clothes over dummies. Kitchen cupboards are filled with food which will be tested for radioactivity after explosion. Various shots of single story house, butane tank storage, a 500 feet high shot tower (on which bomb explodes) and army tanks ready to move in as soon as the bomb explodes. Night - people putting protective glasses on, checking cameras, getting ready for the bomb. The bomb explodes - at first the screen blasts. Succession of shots demonstrating the impact of the blast on the model town. A single story house is seen disintegrating - nothing is left of it. Two story house bursts in flames before disintegrating. A concrete single story house burns inside but construction survives. People in trenches curl down as heath wave passes them. A grand long shot shows rise of a huge mushroom. Lethal cloud is seen over (whatever is left of) model town. In the morning, men in protective clothing (not to protective) assess the outcome of the explosion. Men are seen walking around debris checking for radioactivity and levels of destruction of different buildings. Succession of shots of shattered town. Only the concrete building survives the explosion but dummies inside are broken up. This was one of the biggest ever atomic bomb tests. This bomb was twice as powerful as Hiroshima one. (Orig.Neg.)
