EXTERIOR The exterior of this RS1600i is stunning, finished in Strato Silver Metallic. The paintwork has a bright shine and is in exceptional condition, complimented by the correct RS1600i decals on the bonnet, boot lid and sides. There are a few very minor paint imperfections on the driver's side door sill and lower rear arch section. There is also a very small area of paint blister on the bottom corner of the driver's door. The inner wings and battery tray are very solid and show no sign of corrosion. All exterior trim is in excellent order as is the glass, lights and badges. The unique RS1600i rear spoiler is perfect. A superb example of the car that first returned the RS badge to the MK3 Escort. INTERIOR The interior of this RS1600i is in fantastic order. Finished in Shark Grey Crushed Velour, the special RS seats show no signs of wear having been recovered in 2011. The seat pads and deep side bolsters are firm and the door cards are in remarkable condition. The original perforated headlining is tight and free from marks and discolouration. The dashboard does have some minor cracking on the instrument binnacle section, a common issue with MK3 Escorts. The thick leather trimmed RS 4 spoke steering wheel is in excellent condition. All interior equipment is functional and the trim pieces intact, including the immaculate rear parcel shelf which has remained free from speaker cut outs. The radio has been upgraded to a modern CD player with MP3 connectivity. A retro and functional 80's interior. ENGINE & TRANSMISSION Fitted with Fords 1600 Compound Value angle Hemispherical chamber (CVH) unit with a standard hot cam and modified head producing 115 BHP. This is mated to the Bosch K Jetronic Fuel Injection System incorporating deceleration fuel shut off. The car accelerates smoothly to a maximum speed of 118mph and achieves 0-60 in 8.7 seconds. Front wheel drive 5 speed synchromesh gearbox with remote shift. The gear changes are light and precise allowing both subtle and enthusiastic driving, a pleasure to operate. WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES The original 15 X 6 inch RS seven spoke cast aluminium wheels are spotless and shod with matching branded tyres all round, with excellent tread remaining. Diagonally split hydraulic circuits with tandem master cylinder, vacuum servo assistance and 9.4" ventilated discs up front bring the car to an assuring stop. HISTORY FILE With only 2600 ever sold in the UK, of which only 250 in Stratos Silver, (source RS Owners Club), and being in production for just three years, this is now a very rare car. This particular RS1600i has had 8 former keepers, and it is clear from the condition of the car that the owners have cherished it. A history file containing many previous MOT's and invoices indicate the level of care this car has clearly received and help substantiate the 93,401 miles covered. This vehicle will appeal to a RS collector wanting an incredibly well preserved but usable example of a now, very rare car. One key fits all locks and ignition. The HPI check reveals that the car was subject to an insurance claim in 1988 which due to the low value, wrote the car off.
