50 Cent, de son vrai nom Curtis James Jackson III est né le 6 juillet 1975. Rappeur américain de premier plan, il a connu un grand succès grâce aux albums Get Rich or Die Tryin' et The Massacre. 50 Cent a acquis des reconnaissances multi-platinum pour ces deux albums et a vendu au total plus de vingt-deux millions d'albums dans le monde. Il a grandi dans le quartier de South Jamaica dans le Queens à New York City. Il grandit sans père et est élevé par sa mère Sabrina Jackson (d'origine haitienne), qui lui a donné naissance alors qu'elle n'avait que quinze ans. Sabrina deale de la cocaïne mais elle éduque néanmoins son fils, au moins jusqu'à son assasinat. Elle n'a que vingt-trois ans lorsqu'un inconnu drogue son verre. Inanimée, elle est laissée dans son appartement avec le gaz ouvert et les fenêtres fermées... et des pillules d'ecstazy entre les orteils. Curtis n'a que huit ans. Après la mort de sa mère, Curtis emménage chez ses grands-parents avec huit oncles et tantes. Il raconte : Je me souviens que ma grand-mère m'a dit : « Ta maman ne rentre pas, elle ne reviendra pas te reprendre, tu resteras donc avec nous maintenant. C'est alors que j'ai commencé à traîner dans la rue. » Curtis jouait beaucoup au basket, puis commence la boxe à l'âge de onze ans. Dans les années 1980, il participe aux Junior Olympics en tant que boxeur dans la catégorie amateur. Son but est de combattre dans le tournoi de boxe des Golden Gloves mais on ne l'autorise pas à participer à la compétition du fait de son jeune âge. Curtis fait le rapprochament entre le rap et la boxe : J'étais très compétitif sur le ring et le hip-hop aussi est une compétition.
