Compositeur allemand né en 1714 à Erasbach (Haut-Palatinat) et décédé à Vienne en 1787. Fils d'un garde-chasse du prince Lobkovitz, il commença ses études à Prague, continua à Vienne puis à Milan, avec Sammartini (1736). Nommé Maître de chapelle de la cour à Vienne en 1754, il est l'auteur de 107 operas, d'opéras-comiques, de ballets pantomimes, de 10 symphonies, 7 sonates, un concerto pour flûtes et 7 lieder ainsi que de musique sacrée.
