After watching the new Wonder Woman movie and thoroughly enjoying it I decided to try and make the movie logo. The first thing I did was find the logo online and print out an enlarged version. This prints out on multiple sheets of paper which I trim and then tape together. This becomes my template. Next I cut out the overall shape of the logo. I transfer this to a scrap piece of particle board and then I use my jigsaw to cut out the shape. This will be a backer of sorts that will hold all of the other logo pieces. I paint this black. Next I move on to the individual pieces of the logo and cut those out. I had to add missing pieces where ever there was any overlap in the design. I actually screwed up and taped some of the pieces on upside down. I fixed this later by cutting them again and re-tape them in the correct position. Once all the separate pieces are cut out I trace them on to a scrap piece of MDF. I use my jigsaw to cut out the shapes. I also used some backer board for two of the pieces that sit on top of the logo. I used thinner backer board for those pieces because I thought it looked better. With all the pieces cut I sanded them all to 400 grit. Then I painted them all black. Once the paint was dry I spray painted them gold and while the paint was still wet I used a brush to scrape away some of the gold paint to reveal the black underneath. I was trying to add some texture to the piece. Once I was happy with how the texture looked I lightly sprayed some more gold paint on top but made sure not to cover all of the black. This worked fairly well and looks very good at a distance but my technique could use some improvement. When the paint was all dry I mixed up some epoxy and glued the gold pieces to the black backer and once that was dry I flipped the whole thing over and secured all the pieces with screws. I forgot to mention that I did add a couple of spacers to the thinner pieces of the logo so that they would have support underneath them. I hope you enjoyed the video and perhaps found it helpful.
