Within Temptation est un groupe de Metal Symphonique hollandais, dont les membres sont Sharon den Adel (voix), Robert Westerholt (Guitare), Jeroen van Veen (Basse), Stephen van Haestregt (Batterie), Martijn Spierenburg (Clavier) et Rudolf Adrianus Jolie (Guitare). Within Temptation a débuté en 1996, et leur première démo s’appellait « Enter ». Elle fut suivie d’un album également nommé Enter, mais très rapidement secondé par The Dance en 1998. Leur premier grand hit fut l’album Mother Earth en 2000. Après avoir quelque peu raté le coche avec le single Our Farewell, ils ont explosé le hit-parade hollandais, avec la 2ème place du single Ice Queen. En 2004 ils sortirent leur album The Silent Force, qui créa une rupture avec l’ambiance plus sombre de Mother Earth, pour un genre plus accessible au grand public. Le premier single, Stand My Ground, est tout de suite devenu célèbre, suivi par Memories et Angels. En Décembre 2005, le premier enfant de Robert et Sharon est né : Eva Luna. Within Temptation a alors annoncé un nouvel album en août 2006, mais il fut finalement repoussé à mars 2007. Intitulé The Heart Of Everything, cet album marqua un tournant pour le groupe. Les morceaux proposés se veulent moins symphoniques et plus énergiques, avec notamment le premier single tiré du CD, What Have You Done, en duo avec Keith Caputo, ex-leader du groupe metal Life Of Agony. Le 1er juin 2009, Sharon donne naissance à un garçon, Robin Aiden. En 2011 le cinquième album The Unforgiving est basé sur un comics, chacune des chanson parle d'un personnage, de plus la chanteuse, Sharon, annonce la venue de son troisième enfant, Logan, le 30 mars 2011...
