Wale, né Olubowale Victor Akintimehin, est un rappeur issu de Washington D.C.. Sa carrière débute en 2006, avec le titre "Dig Dug (Shake It)", qui commence à cartonner dans les rues de D.C.. Il établit même un record car son titre devient le plus démandé pour un artiste local. Cette track sera suivit de sa première mixtape Paint a Picture. A partir de l'été 2006 il enchaine les tracks, qui font une lamentation dans les clubs. Pendant le Southern Invasion tour, il effectue des perfermance live entre celles de T.I. et Lil' Wayne. En décembre 2006 il remporte le D.C. Metro Breakthrough Artist of the Year. Sa notoriété baisse de plus en plus en cette fin 2006, grâce à un article dans le mag XXL, ainsi que par ses connexions avec les marques de streetwear The Hundreds, 10 Deep et Good Bully. Etant donné ce succès en 2006, l'année 2007 ne peut qu'être bonne pour le jeune Wale. Ce qui est le cas avec l'arrivé d'un nouveau single, "Good Girls" dès janvier. La chanson arrive dans les mains de Mark Ronson qui l'a diffuse lors de son show radio. En échange Wale lâche un freestyle dans ce même show, mais la collabo entre les 2 n'est pas terminée car ils enregistrent un remix du titre "Smile" de Lily Allen. Cerise sur le gâteau Wale signe sur Allido Records, le label de Ronson. Mi-2007, la mixtape 100 Miles & Running (60 000 DL sur son myspace) débarque, il pose sur la compile/album de Mark Ronson et effectue un live aux MTV Video Music Awards . Les articles se multiplient dans XXL, URB et Rolling Stone. Le 13 novembre 2007, son titre "Nike Boots" est élu Single Of The Week sur iTunes. Un remix est même enregistrer avec Lil' Wayne. Fin 2007, il est huitième au classement des personnes à surveiller en 2008, d'après Entertainment Weekly. 2008 ...
