Vivo announced its new flagship phone, Vivo NEX in Shanghai. The most striking feature is its pop up camera, or “elevating front camera” as Vivo calls it. The phone will also use an in-display fingerprint sensor and “Screen SoundCasting” technology which allows it to transmit audio waves through the display itself. Vivo NEX Debuting at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in February earlier this year, the pop up camera technology was first applied to its concept phone, the Vivo APEX. Since then, it has gained considerable spotlight and attention and was finally implemented in the newly released Vivo NEX. Vivo APEX The Vivo NEX boasts a 6.59-inch screen with an industry-leading 91.24% screen-to-body ratio, 1080p resolution and a 3D-glass back. It even features a durable 8mp pop-up front camera that can easily be “popped out” more than 50 thousand times, 12 and 5mp dual rear cameras and the phone will have a battery capacity of 4000mAh. However, the only downside is that it fails to support the NFC function. As for its processor, Vivo NEX comes in two versions. The standard version uses the snapdragon 710, with a 6G/128G storage, supporting finger recognition at the back. The flagship version utilizes the famous snapdragon 845 with a 8G/256G storage and will support an in-display fingerprint sensor. Vivo NEX Pop-Up Front Camera Vivo’s bold design has redefined the aesthetics of full-screen smartphones. Differentiating itself from the common notch-design signature to the iPhone X and an enclosed camera that was featured by Xiaomi’s MIX series, Vivo has made a great progress to optimize their phone’s screen ratio. However, whether users would fancy this new design involving a pop-up camera or not still stands to be tested by the market.
