Olivia Guerra-Santin came to the Netherlands from Mexico, first to continue her studies at Wageningen University before continueing with an internship and a PhD at the OTB Research Institute for the built environment at TU Delft. Olivia links her childhood interests of playing and making doll houses to her studies. In her PhD, the start of her career in academia, she focused on analysing sustainable buildings in the Netherlands. She is currently working as grant advisor and project manager at Uni Research where she learns to work as part of a team and to learn valuable things from her colleagues. In her private life she reconnects with her Mexican background through ceramic arts of Mexican culture. Finally, her advice to PhD students is to keep your eyes open in your career path, not only in academia or industry, and to get valuable experiences from each of your career choices.
