Description of the artist Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers
Tom Petty est le meneur et compositeur du groupe Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, groupe de rock américain dont la chanson la plus connue est leur succès de la fin des années 70, "Breakdown". Petty et les membres de son groupe ont commencé par jouer dans leur état d'origine, la Floride, mais au milieu des années 70 ils partirent pour Los Angeles afin d'enregistrer leurs futurs albums. Leur premier album homonyme de 1976 inclut les titres "Breakdown" et "American Girl", et reçoit tout d'abord un très bon accueil au Royaume-Uni. Au moment de la sortie de leur deuxième album, en 1978, (You're Gonna Get It) le premier s'installe dans les classements américains des meilleures ventes. Le succès de l'album Damn the Torpedoes, en 1979, les propulse directement du circuit des night-clubs à des salles d'importance nationale. À la fin des années 80, Tom Petty entame une carrière solo. L'album Full Moon Fever sort en 1989 et s'installe dans le haut du classement des meilleures ventes cette année-là. À la même période, il collabore avec George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison et Jeff Lynne au sein du groupe The Travelling Wilburys.
