THE 1975 : The 1975 est une groupe de rock alternatif de Manchester. Il est composé de Matthew Healy (vocals/guitar), Adam Hann (guitar), George Daniel (drums), et Ross MacDonald (bass). Il se dit influencé par Talking Heads, My Bloody Valentine, Michael Jackson, Brian Eno ou encore Sigur Rós même si pour Healy, la plus grosse influence du groupe restera John Hughes, réalisateur et producteur américain de films dans les années 80 et 90. Parallèlement, concernant les paroles, le groupe s'attache à écrire sur les thèmes du sexe, de la drogue, de l'espoir, de la mort et de la peur. Ils se sont rencontrés ados à Manchester et ont commencé à écrire ensemble leur musique à partir de 2002. Deux des membres du groupes ne sont pas originaires de Manchester. En effet Healy est né à Londres et Daniel à Bruxelles. Le groupe s'est formé sous l'impulsion de Hann. Ils ont commencé au tout début par des covers de musique punk. Healy qui chante aujourd'hui était à l'origine le batteur du groupe avant que le premier chanteur quitte le groupe pour en former un autre. Leur premier EP "Facedown" est signé sur le label indépendant "Dorty hit". "The City" sera le premier morceau joué à la radio au Royaume-Uni. La BBC soutiendra dorénavant le groupe qui va aussi se faire une place de choix dans le coeur des blogueurs et de la presse spécialisée, le site Pitcfork en premier lieu en les comparant à "The Big Pink". Après une tournée au Royaume-Uni le groupe va voir sa popularité encore augmenter notamment grâce à leur second EP "Sexe" qui sera notamment joué par DJ Zane Lowe qui anime plusieurs émissions que BBC Radio One.
