The pairing belted out the tune on the BBC show as fans waited for the nerve-wracking result of who would be leaving at the end of week nine - Debbie McGee, 59, and Giovanni Pernice, 27, or Jonnie Peacock, 24, and his partner Oti Mabuse, 27. While former magician’s assistant Debbie struggled not to break down in tears following the news she might be leaving the competition, the fan-favourite was eventually saved and the captive audience continued enjoying the evening’s incredible entertainment. Fans couldn’t believe the stunning rendition trained singer Alfie, 44, and Michael, 55, had given, as they expressed their shock on Twitter. One person said: “Michael Ball and Alfie Boe on #Strictly was outstanding. Your voices are just out of this world. #bbc1.” “Alfie Boe and Michael Ball are singing my all-time favourite song on #Strictly tonight and I'm so happy I could cry #NewYorkNewYork,” another wrote. A third agreed: “New York New York by Ball and Boe, amazing! #strictly #sinatra,” followed by: “Michael Ball and Alfie Boe on Strictly are AMAZING.” “And suddenly Michael Ball & Allie Boe singing about New York really makes me miss home. Two of my favorite things combined tonight and I’m an emotional mess #Strictly,” another viewer added. Not everyone was impressed with the performance however, as one person commented: “#Strictly dreadful performance by Michael Ball and Alfie Boe, something to do with their earpieces being out of synch?” Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday at 6.50pm on BBC One.
