I was asked to be in a stand up paddle boarding instructional video, March 2012. In exchange for my acting, this SUP rental place in the Alamitos Bay of Belmont Shore, Long Beach, California, offered me free rentals for the 2012 SUP season. SUB in the LBC. In February 2012 my friend Miriam Jackson and I were riding our skateboards around my neighborhood in Belmont Shore. As we road by the SUP rental place I told her I wanted to stop and ask how much rentals were because I always wanted to try stand up paddle boarding. Well the guy I happened to ask was the owner of the rental place and they were in the process of filming a video clip for the website. He said that I could go for free if I put on a graduation cap and paddled around for their video clip. I was like, "Heck yeah!!" So he let Miriam and I go for free. I was a bit nervous cause I didn't want to fall in the water. It was Feb, so the water was pretty cold - in the 50's. Well it turns out stand up paddle boarding on flat water was waaayyyy easier than I though it would be. So I paddled around for his video and then thanked him and we skated back to my place super stoked that we just got to stand up paddle board for free!! I checked his website that night and sure enough, there I was, stand up paddle boarding for the first time lol!! By the way, I was also hooked on SUP from that point. A few days later the owner of this same SUP rental place approached me again and asked me to be in his SUP instructional video. In exchange he would give me free SUP rentals for the entire 2012 season. So, I was super excited. Free SUP!! And this place was just a few blocks from where I lived. I immediately took him up on his offer and started paddling as much as I could before the filming of the video. After all, I was a total newbie, so I wanted to look good for the video. In March of 2012 we filmed the video...only 4 weeks after my very first day of stand up paddle boarding! It was a lot of fun! The water was freezing cold, in the low 50's so I was glad I had never fallen off the board. At the 2:47 mark in the video I had to do a fake fall, but had to make it look real. Here's where my stunt woman skills came in handy lol! I didn't even know how to fall off a SUP board cause I had never done it before. The showed me on shore what people look like when they fall. They kinda shuffle there feet a little. For the instructional video I had to fall back and away from the object to show people the correct way to fall. We decided to film this shot last, because they new I would be freezing cold once I hit the water. I was dreading the fake fall! So the time came and I did it and I think I made it look pretty good. :) What do you think YouTube? For a newbie stand up paddle boarder don'tcha think I did pretty good for the video? If you are interested in renting from this place here is their website www.standuprentals.net Kenny gave me permission to post this on my YouTube channel. ~ Diana Blackburn ~ Daredevil Girl ~
