Beloved Israel "Iz" Ka'ano'i Kamakawiwo'Ole sings his renowned medley of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" and "What a Wonderful World." Israel was among the most celebrated of Hawaiian performers with a kind and gentle spirit that is evident in his touching voice. He tragically died in 1997 of an heart attack at an early age (38) and has been sorely missed by his many adoring fans. According to Wikipedia: "The Hawaii State Flag flew at half-staff on July 10, 1997, the day of Kamakawiwoʻole's funeral. His koa wood coffin lay in state at the Capitol building in Honolulu. He was the third person in Hawaiian history to be awarded this honor, and the only one who was not a government official. Approximately ten thousand people attended the funeral." The 64 photos of Rainbows were selected from Google and Bing image searches for "rainbow" to help visualize Israel's soaring words and melodious Spirit that still touches and inspires our deep places many years after he has gone. Thank you Israel Kamakawiwo'Ole.
