1976 (Shirley delivers a powerful cover of one of Stevie Wonder's ballad hits titled, 'All In Love Is Fair'- At the conclusion of this clip there is a great picture of Shirley and Stevie) Shirley recorded and released this song on her 1975 LP titled, 'Good, Bad, But Beautiful' - As always, Shirley delivers a powerful rendition of a classic song. ABOUT this song and Songwriter: Innervisions is an album by American musician Stevie Wonder, released August 3, 1973 on Motown Records. The song, "All In Love Is Fair' is included on the LP. A landmark recording, it was the third of five consecutive albums widely hailed as his "classic period", along with Music of My Mind, Talking Book, Fulfillingness' First Finale, and Songs in the Key of Life. As with many of Stevie Wonder's albums the lyrics, composition and production are almost entirely his own work, with the ARP synthesizer used prominently throughout the album. This instrument was a common motif among musicians of the time because of its ability to construct a complete sound environment. Wonder was the first black artist to experiment with this technology on a mass scale, and Innervisions was hugely influential on the subsequent future of commercial black music. He also played all or virtually all instruments on six of the album's nine tracks, making most of Innervisions a representative one-man band. LYRICS: All is fair in love Love's a crazy game Two people vow to stay In love as one they say But all is changed with time The future no one can see The road you leave behind Ahead lies mystery But all is fair in love I had to go away A writer takes his pen To write the words again That all in love is fair All of fate's a chance It's either good or bad I tossed my coin to say In love with me you'd stay But all in war is so cold You either win or lose When all is put away The loosing side I'll play But all is fair in love I should never have left your side A writer takes his pen To write the words again That all in love is fair A writer takes his pen To write the words again That all in love is fair
