The New Pornographers est un groupe Rock indépendant majoritairement canadien, formé en 1997 à Vancouver (province de la Colombie-Britannique au sud-ouest du Canada). Leur son est influencé par d'autres groupes, comme The Cars ou Cheap Trick, mais leurs chansons ont plus de complexité harmonique et mélodique. Le compositeur principal, Carl Newman, dit que ses influences sont Burt Bacharach, Jim Webb et Brian Wilson. Le groupe a sorti quatre albums jusqu'à maintenant: Mass Romantic, (2000), Electric Version (2003), Twin Cinema (2005) et Challengers (2007). Les membres du groupe sont Daniel Bejar, Kathryn Calder, Neko Case, John Collins, Kurt Dahle, Todd Fancey, Carl Newman et Blaine Thurier. Le nom du groupe viendrait d'une citation de Jimmy Swaggart, qui a appelé la musique "la nouvelle pornographie", (en): "the new pornography". Read more on Last.fm.
