En France, 10 000 taureaux sont massacrés chaque année au nom d’une « tradition » barbare et la corrida continue sous l’influence du puissant lobby tauromachique. Alors que la majorité des Français souhaite l’interdiction de cette pratique cruelle, la Fondation 30 Millions d’Amis soutient toutes les actions pour faire disparaître ces spectacles de sang et de torture. Introduite en France au milieu du XIXe siècle, la corrida espagnole s'est étendue progressivement dans le sud de la France, surtout à partir de 1850. Depuis cette date, elle n'a cessé de se développer et tente constamment d'élargir son territoire. Si de telles tentatives ont échoué à Marseille, en Ariège et en région parisienne (projet de feria au stade de France) la corrida s'est implantée à Carcassonne (Aude), en pays toulousain, à la Brède (Gironde), à Bourg Madame (Pyrénées Orientales)… Cette « tradition » est autorisée, par dérogation, depuis 1951 : si le Code pénal punit sévèrement les sévices graves et actes de cruauté envers les animaux, son alinéa 7 autorise les spectacles taurins avec mise à mort lorsqu’une « tradition locale ininterrompue » peut être invoquée. Cette exception légale aux sévices graves, simple tolérance du législateur face à des pratiques d’un autre temps, légitime la mutilation de milliers de taureaux chaque année en France et leur mise à mort dans de grandes souffrances.
