Julie London (née le 26 septembre 1926 à Santa Rosa et morte le 18 octobre 2000 à Encino en Californie) est une chanteuse et actrice américaine. Née Gayle Peck, elle est la fille de Jack et Josephine Peck, un couple de danseurs et chanteurs de vaudeville et une "enfant de la balle", dont elle sera l'unique enfant. C'est ainsi que, dès l'âge de 3 ans selon sa biographie officielle, elle chante pour la première fois devant un public radiophonique. Lorsqu'elle a 14 ans, sa famille déménage à Los Angeles. Peu après, elle commence à apparaître dans des films. En 1941, à 15 ans donc, Julie quitte l'école et devient liftier dans un grand magasin. C'est tout naturellement dans un ascenseur qu'elle se fait remarquer par Sue Carol, agent artistique et épouse de l'acteur Alan Ladd, qui n'aura de cesse de lui obtenir un premier petit rôle au cinéma. C'est chose faite en 1944, dans un film fumeux de Sam Newfield, Nabonga. Entre temps, le jeune et jolie jeune fille a rencontré un GI en permission, un certain Jack Webb, futur producteur, qui l'épousera en 1947 et sera père de ses deux premières filles, Stacy et Lisa. Cette progéniture l'amènera à mettre un frein à sa carrière artistique. Après la séparation du couple, survenue en 1953, la jeune femme rejoint, comme chanteuse, un groupe jazzy entraîné par un certain Bobby Stroud. Et c'est dans un rôle non crédité que Julie London fait une courte réapparition dans un film mené par Jayne Mansfield, the Girl Can't Help It, interprétant la chanson Cry Me a River. C'est le début de la gloire dans un domaine auquel elle donnera la préférence, l'art vocal. En effet, depuis cette date, Julie London n'a pas publié moins de 32 albums.
