●● Turn on CC for English subtitles ●● Please note, Supreme Court of India recognized transgender people as a third gender on April 15, 2014. The video incorrectly states the date 14 February, 2014. The error is deeply regretted. For the very first time, witness 7 Hijras (transgenders) taking pride and honour in being Indian and singing the National Anthem of India. What do you want to be when you grow up? – It is probably the most commonly asked question to a child. The answer varies individually. Some want to become doctors. Some scientists; some soccer stars, musicians, painters, cops, teachers, engineers, and what not? But not a single child wants to get their income by disrupting other’s work, performing at ceremonies, or offering blessings in exchange of money! Unfortunately, these are the only employment opportunities available to Hijras! Hijras have a recorded history in the Indian subcontinent from antiquity onwards. Still most Hijras live at the margins of society with very low status and the word ‘Hijra’ is often used in a derogatory manner. They face extreme discrimination for not falling into male or female gender categories and are deprived of their right to education and employment! The idea behind this video is to show that just like Indian men and women, Indian Hijras too have the right to choose an employment which fits their talent, skill and passion. ○ VIDEO CREDITS ○ Song: Jana Gana Mana Lyrics: Rabindranath Tagore Composer: Rabindranath Tagore Recreation: Rishav Kar Artists (alphabetically): Fida Khan, Madhuri Sarode, Paras Thakur, Rani Sonar, Samina Shaikh, Shreya Reddy, Urmi Jadhav Vocal Coach: Shubhangi Banerjee Camera: Tushar Pandey Director, Editor & Producer: S Neel ○ SOCIAL ACCOUNTS ○ Instagram : https://instagram.com/YatharthaPics Facebook : https://facebook.com/YatharthaPics Google+ : https://google.com/+YatharthaPics Twitter : https://twitter.com/YatharthaPics Website : http://yatharthapictures.com
