Interpol est un groupe de rock de New York, USA. Formé en 1998 à New York par le guitariste Daniel Kessler et le batteur Greg Drudy (qui par la suite quittera le groupe et sera remplacé par Sam Forgarino), le groupe enregistrera quelques singles et EP et fera quelques apparitions dans des compilations. Interpol a lancé un premier album Turn On The Bright Lights sur le label Matador, le 20 août 2002. L'album fut un grand succès critique, et nombre d'experts l'ont placé parmi les meilleurs disques de l'année 2002. Déjà habitués du CMJ Music Marathon, qui se tient annuellement dans leur ville d'origine, Interpol a participé à plusieurs festivals de musique, dont Coachella, Reading, Glastonbury, en plus de la mini-tournée Curiosa à l'été 2004 en compagnie de The Cure, Mogwai et The Rapture. Malgré le succès de leur premier album, Interpol a choisi de demeurer sur étiquette indépendante pour la sortie de leur second disque, Antics, lancé le 28 septembre 2004. Il s'agit d'un disque moins sombre, étonnant pour certains car le groupe ne se contente pas de répéter la formule du précédent. Antics fut bien accueilli par la critique. En 2005, ils ont enregistré le morceau Direction pour la série télévisée américaine Six Feet Under. La chanson fut enregistrée en avril avant un spectacle de leur tournée. Ils sont apparus la même année sur une compilation du 15e anniversaire de Matador Records. Turn On The Bright Lights était (au moment de la sortie de Antics) la meilleure vente de l'histoire de ce label. Carlos Dengler, connu aussi sous le diminutif Carlos D. est un DJ bien connu à New York. Il lui arrive également de jouer ce rôle pour différentes soirées lorsque le groupe est en tournée.
