https://www.instagram.com/drdavinlim/ More on skin care tips & tricks Laser mole removal-myth busted Laser mole removal is gaining popularity as there are numerous ways to remove moles including the use of CO2 laser/Erbium laser and also tattoo removal lasers such as PicoWay/PicoSure and also many Q-switched lasers. Freckles, facial pigmentation, moles and age warts can all be treated safely with lasers. As a guide I like to use Fraxel laser for general pigmentation and freckling; however, for more specific areas of skin pigmentation, I like to use my PicoSure laser in a fractionated mode. Fractional laser resurfacing is also another method to treat unwanted pigmentation. This video shows how carbon can be taken up by laser energy, therefore deceiving the viewer regarding mole removal. Usually for mole removal with laser therapy, there is frosting with an end point. It often takes skin several days to weeks before it heals up. In treating Caucasian skin types, the treated area is often pink before disappearing; however, treating Asian and ethnic skin types with laser resurfacing, there may be areas of hyperpigmentation or skin darkening before the mole disappears. Surgical excision of a mole is sometimes the best option for certain types of moles including junctional, congenital and compound naevi. Unlike laser removal, surgical removal of a mole is definitive. The flip side; however, is that a scar may result. This can always be treated with laser resurfacing to help reduce scarring secondary to mole removal. A final note, my advice is to be really careful for excision of moles involving the chest and shoulder/back areas as these areas frequently keloid up following surgery.
