C'est le "groupe virtuel le plus populaire de tous les temps" (Guinness World Record 2002 & 2006). Les créateurs en sont : Damon Albarn (de Blur) et le dessinateur Jamie Hewlett (auteur de Tank Girl). Gorillaz a émergé en 1998 et a sorti: • trois albums studio : GorillaZ (2001), Demon Days (2005) et Plastic Beach (2010); • deux recueils de faces B : G-Sides (2001) et D-Sides (2007) • un remix de l’album GorillaZ intitulé Laïka Come Home (2002). • un album, The Fall (2010) conçu sur iPad durant la tournée "Escape to Plastic Beach World Tour" et enregistré pendant les trajets du groupe ou les nuits à l'hotel post-concert. Ils ont aussi sorti 3 DVDs : « Phase One : Celebrity Takedown », « Demon Days : Live at Manchester Opera House » et « Phase Two : Slow Boat to Hades ». Les membres de ce groupe sont Stuart Tusspot alias Stu-Pot alias 2D (chant, claviers), Murdoc Niccals (basse), Russel Hobbs (batterie) & Noodle (guitare, chant). Ces personnages sont fictifs et ne sont pas les alter-ego de personnes réelles, comme on le croit souvent à tort. L’histoire de ces personnages et de leur groupe peut être trouvée dans leur ouvrage "Rise Of The Ogre". Les collaborateurs de Gorillaz sont nombreux et comptent notamment Del Tha Funkee Homosapien (fréquemment compté comme un membre, à tort.
