Fountains of Wayne est un groupe d'indie rock américain à forte tendance power pop du Massachusetts, à ranger entre Weezer et Nada Surf. Il est composé, entre autres, de Chris Collingwood et d'Adam Schlesinger, co-fondateurs du groupe en 1995. Leur premier album en 1996 Fountains of Wayne, est porté par le single Sink to the bottom. Également un grand succès la chanson That thing you do sur la bande originale du film du même nom (un film de Tom Hanks). Ils reviennent en 1999 avec Utopia Parkway. Ces deux albums sont signés chez Atlantic Records. 2003 et troisième album : Welcome Interstate Managers chez Virgin et le hit college rock Stacy's mom mais également Mexican wine et Hey Julie. Cet album se vend à plus de 400 000 exemplaires aux États-Unis. Ils sortent en 2005 un recueil de b-sides et raretés Out-Of-State Plates contenant la reprise de Britney Spears Hit me baby one more time, ainsi que deux chansons créées pour l'occasion : Maureen et The girl I can't forget.
