Description of the artist Foals
Jack et Yannis, amis d'enfance faisaient partie d'un groupe Math Rock, The Edmund Fitzgerald, mais se sont séparés parce que les choses devenaient "trop sérieuses", alors qu'ils voulaient plus "s'amuser dans la création musicale". Le groupe a signé avec le label Transgressive Records en Europe, et Sub Pop Records aux États-Unis. Leur premier album, Antidotes est sorti le 24 mars 2008 au Royaume Uni, et le 8 avril outre Atlantique. Cet album a été produit par Dave Sitek de TV on the Radio, mais le groupe a préféré écarter le mixage final du producteur, et le remixer entièrement à leur manière : la reverb notamment utilisée par Dave donnait à leurs compositions un son "étrange" d'après eux. Côté influences, on trouve Bob Marley ainsi que la techno minimaliste comme celle de monolake, d'ailleurs plusieurs membres du groupe sont admiratifs du travail de Steve Reich l'inventeur de la musique minimaliste. Fans des Talking Heads, le groupe n'hésite pas à dire que cette influence se retrouve dans leurs enregistrements. Yannis affirme aussi que le groupe de math rock Sweep the leg Johnny est son préféré. Yannis Philippakis, guitariste et chanteur a été récemment à la 27e place dans le classement des "plus cools" dans le magazine NME (2008). Jack Bevan, le batteur, est soutenu par la marque SJC Drums. Le groupe a sorti en 2010 un nouvel album, et est en tournée. Yannis Philippakis possède une guitare Travis Bean TB1000S,Jack joue sur des batteries SJC Drums, Tama et Pearl, Jimmy sur une Fender Telecaster, Edwin sur un KORG MS-20 et un Würlitzer 200A tandis que Walter joue sur une Fender Jazz Bass Aerodyne American Deluxe.
