Elizabeth's first studio-recorded cover: "Jealous Guy" by the very famous and legendary, John Lennon! After filming wrapped on the first season of Victorious last week, the cast gathered for a wrap party, and Gillies walked up to the series' executive producer, Dan Schneider, saying shyly, "I have a little present for you." She handed him a CD of her singing the Lennon classic, which the two talents from different generations had bonded over weeks prior on set. As a gift to the man who helped move this New Jersey-born talent from the Broadway stage of the coming-of-age musical 13 in front of national tween audiences on Victorious, Gillies called the show's music composer and asked him to help her record an impressive take on the song. Elizabeth & him both share a strong love for this song. Song: "Jealous Guy" Artist: Elizabeth Gillies Album: "Covers From the Heart" Written By: John Lennon Original Song By: John Lennon Font: Palace Script MT Download Link: http://www.sendspace.com/file/utimhf Program Used: Sony Vegas Pro 0.9 Personal Review: This was the first time I heard Liz sing after "Freak the Freak Out". I was even more impressed with this than I was with "Give it Up". In the first minute of the song, we get to hear Liz and the piano all alone - that part maybe the best part of the song. Liz's vocals are incredible in it, even without trying and reaching high notes. Her voice is very smooth, gentle & mature. The piano playing in the background was very good as well. If Liz played the piano part as well, I'm seriously clapping my hands for her cause both the piano and the singing were perfect! Then in the second part of the song, you get to hear her sing with more power in her voice cause of the instruments that are added to the piano (like the drums). However, the piano still sticks out more than the rest of the instruments. After the second part, the very peaceful bridge begins with Liz humming the song with some "oh"s in it as well. What I really liked in the bridge were the little "rain/tear drops". I don't really understand why they were added but they add a lot to the atmosphere of the song. After that she sings the chorus again, only with a more higher note in the last line "I'm just a jealous guy". I also love how she sings the two "I was swallowing my pain"s - very powerful vocal power! The final verse heats up the song a little but and prepares us for the mind blowing final chorus in the end! In the final chorus, Liz sings it with much more energy and higher notes! A lot of thing are added that make the final chorus even more special: like the background singer that sing with Liz "I made you cry" and the rocky voice Liz adds when she sings "I didn't want to hurt you". But after all that powerful chorus, the songs ends just like in the beginning: gently & peaceful. Overall, the song's lyrics are pretty simple but very heartfelt. Liz's vocals are one of the best I have ever heard and she reminds me of amazing vocal artist such as Lady GaGa. The music behind the amazing vocals are also very, very good (especially the piano)! Liz has conquered my heart with this cover and made me her fan forever! Also, this is by far my favorite cover by Liz! Defiantly 5/5 Stars! Vocals: 10/10 Lyrics: 9.5/10 Music: 9/10 I do not own this song! Hope you enjoyed my video and review! Subscribe for more! :)
