The Nerd takes a look at Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest as well as Castlevania 3: Dracula's Curse. Reliving his first hand memories, both good and bad, as he picks up the NES controller once again. Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest (Konami, 1988) is often slighted in the same terms as Zelda II. The gameplay mechanics were changed as it extended to a more open world feel as opposed to the linear style seen in the original Castlevania. This open world and non-linear style would go on to become one of the cornerstones for future castlevania games. However Castlevania 2 had it's fair share of faults as the Nerd addresses. Whether its the transition be--What a Horrible Night to have curse--tween day and night or the few bosses you get to fight. Overall Castlevania 2 tried to bring new aspects into the series early on, and much like Zelda II would become a martyr for them. The Story itself involves Simon Belmont trying to gather the remaining pieces of Dracula from the original and destroying him once and for all. Castlevania 3: Dracula's Curse (Konami, 1990) served as a prequel to both Castlevania, and Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest. In this installed you take control of Trevor Belmont, Simon's ancestor, along with three different characters, including Alucard, Dracula's son. Taking some aspects from its gaming predecessor, Castlevania 3 follow a non-linear style by introducing split paths for the player to chose from. The story is rather simple as Trevor Belmont is sent out to destroy Dracula and stop his evil reign. The difficulty is great, but memories are greater.
