Boston est un groupe rock américain qui ont eu leurs succès les plus notables dans les années 1970 et 1980. Composé au départ de Brad Delp (chant), Barry Goudreau (guitare), Fran Sheehan (basse), Sib Hashian (batterie) Tom Scholz (chant, guitare, basse, batterie, claviers..) Dès son premier album (1976) Boston pose les fondamentaux de son rock ciselé. Du hard rock acidulé pour les radio FM : des mélodies soignées, des riffs brillants mélangeant habilement d’élégantes guitares électriques et acoustiques, des chœurs le tout produit de manière irréprochable. Bref une musique écoutée par les jeunes avec la bénédiction de leurs parents qui sont aussi sous le charme. Certains reprochent à la musique de Boston de pouvoir passer en fond sonore, sans qu’on l’écoute vraiment. Reste que Tom Scholz éblouissant compositeur (les titres sont souvent crédités à l’ensemble du groupe), musicien multi-instrumentiste doué, co-producteur talentueux et pivot du groupe, même si chaque membre du groupe est irréprochable, peut être considéré à lui seul comme l’inventeur et metteur au point du son rock FM qu’une pléiade de groupes allait reprendre dans les décennies suivantes (Europe, Survivor, Foreigner ou Toto).
