D'abord actrice à Broadway et à la télévision à partir de 2008, Ariana Grande passe à la chanson en 2011. Elle obtient son premier succès en mars 2013 avec le hit The Way en compagnie du rappeur Mac Miller. Ce titre devient le fer de lance de l'album Yours Truly qui se classe numéro un du Billboard 200 en septembre 2013. L'Américaine Ariana Grande-Butera est née le 26 juin 1993 à Boca Raton (Floride). Enfant, Ariana Grande fait partie de troupes de théâtre juvéniles tout en fréquentant le collège. En 2008, elle intègre la troupe de la comédie musicale 13 à Broadway. Ariana Grande reçoit pour sa participation à ce spectacle un National Youth Theatre Association Award. On la retrouve en 2010 dans la comédie musicale Cuba Libre, écrite et produite par Desmond Child. Elle apparaît la même année dans le show musical Victorious sur la chaîne Nickelodeon. C'est là qu'elle étrenne son personnage de Cat Valentine. Après iCarly et Winx Club en 2011, Ariana Grande devient l'un des deux personnages principaux de la sitcom adolescente Sam & Cat en 2013. Elle y est de nouveau Cat Valentine. C'est en tant qu'Ariana Grande qu'elle sort en 2011 son premier single avec Put your Hearts Up. Son second titre The Way devient aussi son premier tube en mars 2013. Avec la participation du rappeur Mac Miller, ce titre de pure pop R&B devient numéro neuf aux États-Unis. Le titre fonctionne également en Australie, Grande-Bretagne ou Belgique, ainsi qu'en Ukraine où il est numéro un. Produit notamment par Babyface, le premier album d'Ariana Grande voit le jour en septembre 2013.
