Alanis Morissette (Ottawa, 1er juin 1974) est une chanteuse canadienne de rock. Sa carrière internationale a commencé en 1995 avec l'album Jagged Little Pill, qui a connu un succès considérable (43 millions de disques vendus en l'espace de treize ans et 30 millions au moment de la sortie de l'album). Elle débute sa carrière musicale très jeune puisque sa première chanson fut composée à l'age de 9 ans et son premier single sorti lorsqu'elle n'en avait que 11. Son premier album, intitulé Alanis, sort en 1990 chez MCA Records Canada et n'est distribué que dans son pays natal. En 1992, elle reçoit 3 Juno awards (Canada) pour cet album et sort dans la foulé son deuxième intitulé Now is the time, terminant ainsi son contrat avec sa maison de disque. Elle migre alors à Toronto puis à Los Angeles où elle rencontre Glen Ballard, producteur et compositeur. En 1995 sort son premier album international, Jagged Little Pill. Les chansons furent écrites et enregistrées en même temps : la chanson Perfect a ainsi pris 20 minutes de la composition à l'enregistrement. Et pourtant le succès est là. Les ventes prévisionnelles était de 250000 ventes. Mais après 5 singles, les ventes atteignent 30 millions de disques dans le monde (soit le premier album d'un artiste le plus vendu au monde). Ce succès lui rapporte les titres de Meilleure artiste féminine, Meilleure Chanson Rock, Meilleur Album Rock, et Meilleur Album aux Grammy awards. En 1998 sort Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie qui se vend à 7 millions d'exemplaires dans le monde. En 1999, la chanson Uninvited remporte deux récompenses aux Grammy Awards pour la Meilleure Chanson Rock et la Meilleure Artiste Féminine dans une chanson Rock.
