Or sometimes you see something so completely out of bounds that you can’t help but wonder, just what were the creators and producers of this movie thinking?? Before we get started with today’s video don’t forget to click the bell to get notified every single day with the BEST Tops you’ll ever see! Let’s get rollin! #5 Without doubt Toy Story is one of the most iconic children’ movies of all time. How could it not be? It’s literally a movie about toys coming to life. . . what’s not to like!? One of the underlying storylines was the relationship between Woody and Bo Peep. Bo could be extra aggressive at times, and at one point pulled Woody close to her with her cane and said “what if I get someone else to watch the sheep tonight?” While I’m sure that most children didn’t understand the insinuation, the rest of us know exactly what Little Bo Peep was looking for by making a statement like that! #4 1992’s Aladdin was about a street rat with the same name, and a genie that grant’s Aladdin three wishes. It was a fun tale with singing and life lessons all intertwined. During a scene where the genie, played by the late Robin Williams, saves Aladdin’s life he then goes on to make a few jokes. At one point, during a barrage of compliments he throws Aladdins way, the genie says ‘not that I want to pick out curtains or anything’ – possibly impying that he wasn’t interested. That joke is a little risqué, isn’t it Disney? #3 Sometimes Disney went to great lengths to disguise its crazy behavior . . . and sometimes they just didn’t. In the home version of the film Bernard and Bianca are flying through the sky on the back of their bird friend when they cross a building that has a woman standing in the window. but in the home version if you paused the tape at the right time it was clearly seen. For this reason the movie actually had a lawsuit thrown at it! Tisk, tisk Disney! #2 We all know the story or Pinocchio, right? The wooden boy, who just wants to be a real boy, but has a problem with telling the truth? In the film however he travels down to Pleasure Island. As if that name isn’t enough of a red flag already, at one point he takes to smoking a cigar, but there are some questions on whether or not that’s what he was actually smoking! At one point Lampwick encourage him to take a big ‘drag’, but then you see the puppet turn green, and his eyes went very low and he becomes disoriented! I’m not positive what was in that cigar, but I’m sure it wasn’t just tobacco! #1 Sometimes things are just too blatantly disrespectful to get a pass. In the 1953 version of Peter Pan a song called “What Makes the Red Man Red” was featured. The lyrics and insinuations were littered with blatant racial stereotypes against Native Americans. In later renditions usually the scene was removed. Disney has come a long way in terms of style and content, but one thing that seems to remain a constant is their ability – and willingness – to push the envelope when it comes to jokes that toe the line of funny and insensitive. Nevertheless though, they have shown a history of making right on missteps that they’ve taken over the years, so here’s to hoping they continue to tread in that direction. And that is today’s list!
